Poydras Home is celebrating our 200th birthday!

Poydras Home has reached a rare, historical milestone as 2017 marks our 200th birthday. Please plan to join in our year-long celebration by saving the date for these Bicentennial Special Events:

President and Co-Founder of Hearthstone Alzheimer Care, Ltd. Dr. John Zeisel presented “Hopeful Aging” at Poydras Home on March 28th. Dr. Zeisel led us on a journey through the aging brain while exploring the possibilities for learning and connection for persons living with memory loss. This dynamic presentation, previously aired on PBS nationwide, communicated a hopeful message about memory and aging. Attendees were equipped with new strategies to help caregivers provide meaningful, engaging experiences to those living with memory challenges. “Hopeful Aging” examined brain health and vitality, memory systems and learning with a focus on Hearthstone’s innovative Learning for Life ™ program.

Enjoy a complimentary alfresco concert on Poydras Home’s expansive front lawn on the evening of Tuesday, May 9th (rain date May 10th) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. generously sponsored by Fidelity Bank. We will celebrate our Bicentennial with a Big Brass Birthday Bash as the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra’s brass ensemble highlights how brass instruments have been used throughout history in and out of orchestras. Dine on free red beans and rice or bring a picnic. Join us for a selection of popular, contemporary and American music in an outdoor setting perfect for families, friends and neighbors alike!

Like No Other…
The Celebratory Bicentennial Gala on Thursday evening, October 26th, will be the grand finale of our 200th birthday – an evening to remember that promises to be a celebration like no other!

The 200th Birthday Gift

In commemoration of this celebratory bicentennial year, Poydras Home is giving our residents a scenic park with a Koi fish pond, fountain, patio, walkways, gardens and gazebo.

For now and future generations, Poydras Home residents, families, friends, visitors, volunteers and staff can enjoy this beautiful addition as they visit with loved ones, rest, repose, reminisce, reflect and return day after day to enjoy all the beauty of nature at Poydras Home.

This park and pond will be located on the front lawn of Poydras Home in the lower quadrant nearest to Magazine Street and Jefferson Avenue.
