A Joyful Way to Give

We are grateful for your support of Poydras Home’s annual fundraiser and we hope you will choose to make Poydras Home a priority in your charitable giving. Consider a corporate or individual patron sponsorship of the Poydras Home 1st Annual Holiday Tree Lighting & Music Festival.

In 2019, in place of the traditional Art Show, we introduced a new event, a Holiday Tree Lighting & Music Festival, which took place on Thursday, December 5th from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Poydras Home brought back holiday traditions enjoyed by the young orphans who once lived at Poydras: Corinthian columns wrapped in green garlands, gaily decorated halls, and a “grand Christmas tree with twinkling lights.” We shared these holiday traditions with our residents, their families, our neighbors and the Greater New Orleans community through our celebratory outdoor Tree Lighting & Music Festival that was free and open to the public.

Our generous sponsors supported our new community celebration of a tree lighting ceremony of a majestic, 30 foot tree on the Poydras Home front lawn with a musical concert on the corner of Magazine Street and Jefferson Avenue. The event began with a holiday-themed Patron Party in the historic 1857 Hall from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. co-chaired by Bridget Bories, Lesley Hardin, Dee McCloskey, and Deborah Mooney. The festive invitation art was rendered by watercolorist Marina G. Reed. Patrons enjoyed musical entertainment by the New Orleans Center For Creative Arts (NOCCA) jazz and vocal students led by Vocal Coach Anne Sumich. Patron Party food and libations were donated by notable restaurants including Ralph’s On The Park, The Pelican Club Restaurant, Vincent’s Italian Cuisine, Galatoire’s Restaurant , Creole Creamery, and more. Patron Party ticket prices are $100 each. Sponsorships are are available from $500 to $10,000.

At 7:00 p.m. Poydras Home’s Magazine Street gate opened wide as both Patrons and the public were welcomed to assemble on the spacious front lawn to hear holiday favorites and gospel music performed by the New Orleans Council on Aging Community Choir under the direction of Mrs. Rhea Dokes. This portion of the evening was free and open to the public. Refreshments of hot cocoa provided by CC’s Coffee House and cookies compliments of Poydras Home were enjoyed as we awaited the big moment when at 7:30 p.m. our majestic, 30 foot tall tree was brightly lit. After the party wound down at 8:00 p.m., our tree continued to light up the sky through January 1st, serving as a beacon of holiday cheer on the corner of Jefferson Ave. and Magazine Street.

Proceeds benefit Poydras Home and it’s mission to preserve the dignity and grace of residents while providing quality and compassionate care in a vibrant community.

SAVE THE DATE for the 2nd Annual Holiday Tree Lighting & Music Festival on Thursday, December 3, 2020. We hope you will join us this year as we light up the night and light up the season for our residents and the community as we bring back this treasured tradition, Home for the Holidays at Poydras Home.
