Welcome to Poydras Home,
a Retirement Community in New Orleans
Somewhere in your heart haven’t you looked forward to a time in your life of greater freedom and enjoyment with fewer responsibilities and concerns? How, you ask? In New Orleans, you have an easy answer: Poydras Home.
Today, Poydras welcomes men and women to a true Continuing Care Retirement Community. Residents have the option of moving here at the independent living level with the assurance of additional living options such as assisted living, nursing care and memory support should changing health needs require those. Some become residents of Poydras Home at the assisted living and nursing care levels. For others, the PHASE Senior Day Program is a way of meeting personal and family needs and getting acquainted with the Poydras Home community. We have a deeply rooted tradition of making all who live at Poydras Home feel like part of a special family, and the depth of opportunities and services offered here is as broad as the Mississippi – now even deeper with the completion of our latest expansion. Poydras Home celebrated our 200th Birthday in 2017
Poydras Home reached a rare, historical milestone in 2017 as we celebrated our 200th birthday. We marked our 200+ year tradition of quality, compassionate care with an addition to our campus of a scenic park with a Koi fish pond, fountain, patio, walkways, gardens, benches and gazebo. The beautiful park and Koi pond is located on the front lawn of Poydras Home in the lower quadrant nearer to Magazine Street and Jefferson Avenue.
Our patio is dotted with the engraved, commemorative bricks of the supporters of our pond project.
In 2010 the members of the Poydras Home Book Committee set out to have our institution’s rich history recorded in book form. That vision was realized with the 2016 publication of LSU Press’ “New Orleans Women And The Poydras Home – More Durable Than Marble” by author Pamela Tyler. Our story is available for purchase through this link.
We completed an Assisted Living expansion in 2013. Learn More >
