You are Invited to Resident Bobbie Stephens' Art Show & Sale

Mrs. Bobbie Stephens is offering her art for sale as a way to give back to the dedicated caregivers who give so much to her. Mrs. Stephens will hold an art show and sale at Poydras Home in the 1857 Hall on Thursday, November 5 from 5 to 7 p.m., donating 100% of the proceeds to Poydras Home’s Employee Appreciation Fund.

Mrs. Stephens is a resident of Poydras Home who has been painting for as long as she can remember. She seeks inspiration from the beauty she sees around her and paints scenes that bring her joy. Mrs. Stephens’ art show and sale will feature a curated assortment of her original artwork. Mrs. Stephens’ event is free of charge and open to the public.

Plan to shop while enjoying light bites and live musical entertainment provided by renown jazz & blues vocalist Betty Shirley accompanied by pianist Kyle Cripps.

Poydras Home Conversations CEU Series

Poydras Home hosts quarterly Continuing Education courses (CEU) for Social Workers and/or Nurses. These events afford hospital discharge planners as well as social workers and nurses within our surrounding healthcare community a glimpse of the Poydras Home lifestyle while fulfilling their CEU annual licensing requirements.

On July 30 Poydras Home’s Social Services Coordinator Patricia Welsh presented a 1-hour clinical social work continuing education unit (CEU) on the topic of NET Mind-Body Stress Relief: How to let go of stuck stress responses through Neuro Emotional Technique.

On June 11 Poydras Home hosted a free-of-charge, one-hour, clinical continuing education unit (CEU) for nurses and social workers to discuss Grief for the Professional Caregiver: Tips for Coping with Personal and Professional Grief as presented by Patient Care Coordinator for Hospice Specialists of Louisiana Rebecca Jeffries.

On January 20th Poydras Home hosted a free-of-charge 1.5 hour social work continuing education unit (CEU) event led by Jodi Workman, LCSW of Anvoi Hospice on the topic of Hospice for Healthcare Workers.

Mardi Gras at Poydras Home

Carnival time at Poydras Home is busy and popular. Poydras Home is ideally positioned on the route of more than a dozen parades. Our residents can even catch coveted throws from our side of the fence! Our season kicked off on King’s Day with our first taste of king cake and the reveal of our Poydras Home royalty. The Krewe of Thoth Walking Parade visits us early to allow our residents to preview their throws and share in a royal toast. We also have our own Mardi Gras Ball in the 1857 Hall. We close out the season with a resident and family barbecue on Thoth Sunday.

Due to an increase of campus visitors during Mardi Gras, Poydras Home implements the following parade procedures:

• During parades at Poydras Home, all guests, including family members, must check in at the Arbor reception desk at our 825 Jefferson Ave. entrance to receive wrist bands to be worn for the duration of the parade.
• Due to parade line ups, NOPD will not allow access to the Poydras Home parking lots from 3:00 p.m. until after all parades have passed.
• Poydras Home gate codes will be changed during the Mardi Gras season, requiring all visitors, including family members, to be buzzed in by our receptionist.
• Guests are encouraged to use our provided temporary, outdoor restrooms.
• Families are invited to bring their resident to view parades and return your resident to their room afterwards. Our staff capacity does not allow us to escort residents who require assistance to attend parades.
