Finding the right Assisted Living in New Orleans for your loved one is an important and impactful decision. At Poydras Home, a Continuing Care Retirement Community nestled in the heart of Uptown New Orleans, we have spent more than 200 years of service to our community. We are known for our compassionate care for those who choose to call us home.
Our Assisted Living program, located in Oak House, offers tiered personal care support, all meals, a rich social environment, and the reassurance of professional staff available around the clock. Whether your loved one needs a small amount of help each day or more consistent support, we have a level of Assisted Living care designed to fit your needs.
Assisted Living is a senior living option that provides housing, meals, and help with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as dressing and bathing, as well as medication support, while still encouraging as much independence as possible.
It is designed for older adults who are ready to let go of the tasks of managing their own home such as maintenance, housekeeping, food shopping and preparation, and want companionship as well as access to personal support as needed. For families searching for Assisted Living in New Orleans, the right fit often comes down to the level of ADL support, daily life, and the sense of community.
Poydras Home’s Assisted Living campus is intimate by design, which means residents and staff genuinely know each other and care is personalized. Families who tour Poydras Home often tell us the difference is immediately noticeable: in the way staff greet residents by name and in the warmth of shared spaces designed for true community.
Our care team works from individualized care plans that evolve as each resident’s needs change. Our commitment to dignity remains constant.

Traditional Assisted Living at Poydras Home is based on a social model and offers tiered support across three possible levels of care to accommodate an increasing range of help with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), best understood as help with your physical body, including assistance with dressing, showering support, and continence care.
This framework ensures a personalized approach to care. Residents enter at the level that matches their current needs and can move between levels as those needs evolve. It is our most versatile, flexible care offering.
All meals are provided in Assisted Living. Generally, couples can reside together within Assisted Living, and one small pet is allowed. Here is an overview of what each level includes:
Medication reminders, at no additional cost, and medication management, at an additional fee, are both available within our Oak House Assisted Living. Depending on your loved one’s needs, our staff can provide gentle reminders to take medications at the right time, or our professional nurses can administer medications directly for an additional fee.
Families often tell us that the complexities of medication management at home was a turning point in their decision to seek Assisted Living. The peace of mind that comes from knowing medications are handled correctly and consistently is meaningful, both for residents and for the people who love them.
At Poydras Home, we work to create an environment in our campus where residents feel at home, connected to their neighbors, and engaged in the design of their days.
All meals are provided for Poydras Home’s traditional Assisted Living residents. We focus on nutritious, thoughtfully prepared food served in a communal dining setting. Shared mealtimes in the Lallande Dining Room are a cornerstone of community life, a daily opportunity for conversation, connection, and enjoyment.
Dietary needs and preferences are considered when planning menus, and our culinary team works to ensure that mealtimes are events to look forward to. Residents have access to their own personal kitchenettes within their apartments, as well.
Isolation is one of the most significant risks facing older adults living alone. At Poydras Home, community is built into the fabric of daily life. Social programming, group activities, spiritual opportunities, and common spaces, including an art studio, are designed to support meaningful connection among residents.
Our New Orleans location matters. The culture of this city, its warmth, its music, its love of gathering and celebrating, flows naturally into community life at Poydras Home. We embrace that spirit as part of what makes this place feel like home.

Our campus includes beautiful outdoor spaces that all of our residents can enjoy. For those in our specialized Memory Care Assisted Livings, Seasons and Egret House, secure garden spaces provide a satisfying opportunity for outdoor time and movement, designed specifically to support residents with dementia who may have wandering urges, while keeping them safe and secure.
The goal of Assisted Living is to provide exactly the level of help needed so that residents can continue the lifestyle of their choice. Our care team is trained to identify the right balance: stepping in where support is genuinely needed, and stepping back to allow independence where it is safe and preferred.
Many residents find that having reliable support actually increases their sense of confidence and freedom. Knowing help is available when you need it can make it easier to engage in daily life rather than withdrawing from it.
Oak House is designed to feel residential and welcoming, a place that reflects the character of our neighborhood and the warmth of our community inside it. One-bedroom apartment suites for our traditional Assisted Living residents, upstairs at Oak House, are available in two sizes. Couples are welcome to reside together, and one small pet is permitted.

Our Assisted Living apartments are designed for comfort, safety, and everyday ease. In each traditional Assisted Living apartment, you will find:
A dedicated art studio is also available. Oak House residents are able to bring in their own furnishings, making their living space their own. Oak House fosters a particularly strong sense of community through special attention to each person’s social, cultural, recreational, and spiritual needs.
Within our campus, we also offer two specialized, secure Memory Care options known as Seasons at Oak House and Egret House. Memory care respite 30-day stays are also available.
Poydras Home is a Continuing Care Retirement Community, which means we offer multiple levels of care on one campus, from Independent Living to Assisted Living, Memory Care Assisted Living, and Nursing Care. Transitions between care levels are guided by Poydras Home’s healthcare staff, who work with residents and families to evaluate when a different level of care would provide better support. This process is handled with care and transparency, with the resident’s wellbeing at the center.
Independent Living at Poydras Home frees residents from the burdens of home maintenance with weekly housekeeping support and nightly dinner provided. Residents at this level usually maintain personal mobility, often still drive, and enjoy the sense of community with peers in our intimate grouping of our Independent Living apartments within Garden House.
The distinction between Independent Living and Assisted Living comes down to personal needs. Independent Living residents manage their own daily hygiene, dressing, and mobility without staff assistance. When those tasks begin to require support, or when a higher level of oversight is beneficial, Assisted Living can become the right fit.
Specialized Memory Care at Poydras Home allows those with progressing Alzheimer’s or dementia to enjoy a safe, beautiful environment, including secure garden spaces designed to satisfy wandering urges common with these conditions.
Our two Memory Care settings provide purpose-built spaces where residents with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia can live with safety, dignity, and structured engagement. Staff in these settings have specialized training in dementia care, behavioral support, and structured programming designed to promote wellbeing.
Memory Care respite 30-day stays are also available.
Assisted Living at Poydras Home is built around a social model: supporting daily life, personal care, meals, and connection. Nursing Care goes further, providing expanded medical oversight and the ability to accommodate total care needs for residents with complex or evolving clinical conditions.
Nursing Care at Poydras Home is delivered under our Green House® Project model, a nationally recognized approach that emphasizes real home, meaningful life, and empowered staff. If your family is exploring whether Nursing Care may be the right fit, we encourage you to contact our team to learn more.

Independent Living is designed for older adults who are self-sufficient in their daily personal care and simply want the benefits of a maintenance-free lifestyle and a built-in community. Assisted Living provides that same social environment plus some hands-on support with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as dressing, showering, and continence care. The right starting point depends on your loved one’s current level of independence.
While traditional Assisted Living residents often display some degree of forgetfulness, specialized Memory Care Assisted Living is designed specifically for individuals with diagnosed dementia or Alzheimer’s who still have personal mobility and are prone to wandering urges or who display behaviors that can be challenging. The Memory Care Assisted Living setting features a secure environment, staff specially trained in dementia, and structured programming tailored to the unique needs of residents with cognitive decline.
Yes. Poydras Home offers three tiers of traditional Assisted Living care, each designed to accommodate a different range of personal care needs. Our Classic level provides amenities that do not include Activities of Daily Living. Plus Care provides support of up to two Activities of Daily Living while Platinum Care offers hands-on assistance with up to three Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Residents can move between levels as their needs evolve, without having to move to a different location within our community.
Yes. These are the core Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) that Assisted Living at Poydras Home is designed to support. Our care team provides respectful, dignified assistance with dressing, showering, and continence support as part of each resident’s individualized care plan. The level of assistance provided is tailored to what each resident needs.
Medication reminders, at no additional cost, and medication management, at an additional fee, are both available within our traditional Assisted Living. Depending on your loved one’s needs, our staff can provide gentle reminders to take medications at the right time, or our professional nurses can administer medications directly for an additional fee. All Memory Care Assisted Living residents are enrolled in our medication management program.
