Emergency Preparedness

Poydras Home residents and their families can rest assured that we are fully prepared for all varieties of emergency situations. We have a long and impeccable record of successful response to these events. We have taken a number of steps to ensure that everyone who lives here will be protected during a Shelter In Place or safely evacuated if necessary should a weather emergency arise.

We are prepared with safety protocols for the threat of a tornado:
  • Poydras Home has safety protocols in place for the threat of a tornado. Our specific safety plan for each care area is rehearsed by staff often, and all are trained to maintain the utmost safety for our residents in the event of a tornado watch or warning.
Our hurricane activation plan includes:
  • Storm specific meetings at Poydras Home to inform residents and their family members about every detail of an impending evacuation
  • Annual emergency evacuation drills for staff and residents
  • Maintaining ample supplies and routinely testing equipment for prompt and safe evacuations
  • Recruiting staff to be available in an emergency situation
  • Annual access to a well-equipped, off-site location for emergency evacuations
